History
The New York Yankees are one of the most iconic and popular teams in all of American sports. They were also one of the original founding teams all the way back in 1901, however at the time they were actually known as the Baltimore Orioles separate from the franchise we now know. When they first moved to New York City 1903 the team name was the New York Highlanders and it would take 10 years for the team to be renamed to the New York Yankees.
This team certainly has one of the longest histories in Major League Baseball due to their ever-popular success year after year. They have been lucky to have many legends of the game on their team throughout the years. Over the course of the franchise’s history they have won 27 World Series titles which is the record for the most by any team in major league baseball. En route to these titles they have won 40 American League pennants which is earned by having the best record in the American League at the end of the season, as well as 19 American League east division titles.
Some of the legendary baseball players from this franchise include Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and so much more. In addition to these legendary players they also have a legendary rivalry with the Boston Red Sox which we briefly mentioned above. The Yankees were also a host to many unique stadiums over the years including the infamous Polo Grounds, even Shea Stadium and now Yankee Stadium is very well-known as well. Year after year they continue to build on their history with even more successful teams. If the Yankees roster can stay healthy this year, we really look forward to potentially seeing them add another championship to the list this year.
