History

Although the Baltimore Orioles are now one of the worst teams in the League this season they are actually one of the very first teams to ever be a part of Major League Baseball. Way back in 1901 they were one of the eight original teams in the American League. Although they went by a different name back then, in fact they were the Milwaukee Brewers, which is still a team in the MLB today. However they only had this name for one year when they became the St. Louis Browns instead. They remained in St. Louis under this name until the 1950s when the organization was purchased by a Baltimore business owner. Since then the team moved to Baltimore and the name was changed yet again. The Orioles got their name because an Oriole is the official state bird of Maryland and it was a popular baseball team name back in the 50s.

Although the Baltimore Orioles are not the best team in the league today they were quite dominant from 1966 to 1983. In fact they played in the World Series six times during this stretch including three World Series wins. It was during this run where most of their famous players were on the team including: Brooks Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., and Eddie Murray. In addition to these famous players they also have a famous stadium called Oriole Park at Camden Yards which is famous for the large warehouse sitting in right field. In 2018 alone the team finished with a 47-115 record which made for one of the worst in the major leagues. This resulted in a manager switch and it will take some time to see how that benefits the team. In the end although the Orioles are not the best team in the league, they are certainly one of the teams with the most history.
