Stadium Guide by Baseball Tripper
Even though the Astros are not one of the original teams, they still have a pretty unique history in the league. In fact their original name was not the Astros but rather the Houston Colt 45s. when they entered the National League as part of the expansion in 1962. This expansion also included the New York Mets, but we will save that article for another day. What also makes their history unique is that they were home to the very first dome sports stadium in all of the world. Although they no longer play at this stadium today, they still use a stadium with a retractable roof.
What also makes this team’s history unique is that they began in the National League, but switched to the American League within the past decade. Up until that point they were the first time to ever do so within the modern era simply because they were doing so poorly in the National League and more teams were needed in the American League. Taking a look back in time it took them ten years to first get a winning record, but that seems to be about average for a new franchise.
Besides players like Craig Biggio and Nolan Ryan this team has made a lot of history within the past few years for one of the largest cheating scandals in all of Major League Baseball history. No this did not involve steroids but rather stealing signs from other teams and then informing the players what pictures were to come at bat. Although this is something that all teams try to do in high school, rather than trying to pick up their signs during the game they had already been informed of them through other methods. This history will certainly never leave the franchise and rightfully so.
