As you may begin to pick up on the trend here, the Chicago White Sox are also one of the original teams within the entire MLB. This franchise was established in 1901, but was originally called the Chicago White Stockings and it was eventually changed to Chicago White Sox instead. Despite their hundreds of years of experience in the league, they have only gone through a total of three stadiums including the one which they currently play at, US Cellular Field.
If you have heard anything about the Chicago White Sox’s history then you most likely have heard of the Black Sox Scandal, but if you have not then let us fill you in on this crazy story. This scandal goes all the way back to the year 1919, when the White Sox made it all the way to the World Series and played against the Cincinnati Reds. The issue that they soon ran into was that they were accused of cheating by throwing the game in order to win money from gambling. Of course this is highly illegal and not allowed and in fact has kept famous baseball players like Pete Rose out of the Hall of Fame. In this case there were eight players that took part in the scandal and as you may imagine they were all not only permanently banned from the Baseball Hall of Fame, but they were immediately banned from professional baseball for life. One of the most famous players involved in the scandal was known as Shoeless Joe Jackson. He proved to be quite the controversy in this scandal, because he led both teams in all categories during the World Series and there is nearly no evidence to prove his guilt. He was such a good player that Babe Ruth has been quoted saying that he was trying to model Shoeless Joe Jackson’s hitting. It is a shame that we had to see his career end so soon.
